Implant-Supported Prosthesis

The implant-supported prosthesis is one of the treatment options following the placement of dental implants. This option is recommended if you require multiple implants. There are several types of prostheses, including the implant-supported prosthesis, removable implant-supported prosthesis, and bar-retained implant-supported prosthesis.

The manufacturing and installation steps of a dental prosthesis are similar to those of a traditional denture, with the difference being that a surgical intervention is required to secure the implants. Dr. Lam will place the implants in the jawbone. Subsequently, she will install fixation screws that serve to secure the prosthesis. The final step of the treatment is to anchor the prosthesis onto the implants.

Bar-Retained Implant-Supported Prosthesis

The bar-retained implant-supported prosthesis is an effective solution for edentulism caused by trauma, periodontitis, or other conditions. It can also be considered if daily chewing becomes difficult or impossible, or if you are concerned about jaw relaxation and changes in facial shape due to bone loss. This prosthesis helps prevent bone loss and offers superior comfort compared to a complete denture. Like a denture, the bar-retained implant-supported prosthesis is removable for easy cleaning and is custom-made to meet your specific needs.

Removable Implant-Supported Prosthesis

If you have lost all your teeth, it is possible to use a removable implant-supported prosthesis. However, the bone density in your mouth must be sufficient to support the implants. This prosthesis is securely attached and stabilized by the implants but can be removed by the patient during hygiene procedures. In general, the removable implant-supported prosthesis allows for chewing tougher foods compared to a conventional denture.
